HIKING TRAILS

No unleashed dogs or ATVs permitted on trails.
Things you should bring on your hike: camera, binoculars, sturdy footwear, refreshments, insect repellent, hiking poles.

Bordeaux Trail
During your hike along the Bordeaux Trail you can catch a glimpse of the magnificent coastal scenery and historical landmarks. You may also view one of the numerous oil tankers that travel to and from the nearby transshipment terminal and oil refinery.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 2.5 km. Turn right at Spencer’s Cove Road, left at Haystack Avenue, left at Harbour View Avenue and continue to the end of the road.
Distance: 4.5 km (12 km return including loops)
Rated: Easy to Moderate

Old Cabot Highway to Arthur’s Hill Trail – TRAIL IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCESSIBLE
This trail provides walkers and hikers with a special blend of wilderness adventure, outstanding natural beauty, wildlife and history. The view from the top of the hill is worth the climb.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and turn left at Arnold’s Cove Inn. Cross the bridge and the trailhead is at the end of the road.
Distance: 2 km (4 km return)

Otter Rub / War Path Trail
During the Second World War Arnold’s Cove became part of the huge defense system in Newfoundland. The American military arrived in 1941 and set up anti-aircraft units and watch towers at the War Path lookout, hence the name. The Otter Rub trail continues from the War Path lookout for approximately 1 km to the High Head Lookout.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 4km to Peach Street. Turn right and the trailhead is located at the end of Peach Street.
Distance: 1.5 km (3 km return)

LOOKOUTS
Ivy’s Lookout
Located on Hollett’s Avenue, Ivy’s Lookout features a small gazebo located next to the water. Visitors can walk along the beach and see the centre of Arnold’s Cove. A sign post adjacent the gazebo shows the distances to the resettled communities on the Placentia Bay islands.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 3 km. Turn right at Hollett’s Avenue and continue for 100 metres.
Placentia Bay Lookout
While in Arnold's Cove be sure to visit the Placentia Bay Lookout. From this breathtaking vantage point you can take in the oil industry capital of Newfoundland with a panoramic view of the Braya refinery and the Newfoundland Transshipment Limited facility. This lookout also offers view of the islands of Placentia Bay including Woody Island, Sound Island, Bar Haven, Long Island and Merasheen Island, as well as a spectacular view of our beautiful town. It is a perfect location to capture stunning sunsets and moon rises.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 2 km. Turn right at Whiffen Head Road and continue 1.3 km to the turn off for the Placentia Bay Look Out.
Recreational Grounds
Ballfield
Located at 64 Spencer’s Cove Road, the enclosed field is open from spring to fall for recreation uses such as baseball, softball, soccer and recreation programs.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 2.5 km. Turn right at Spencer’s Cove Road and right at civic address 64.
Dog Park
Located behind the playground at 50A Spencer’s Cove Road, this enclosed area is reserved for dog owners to allow their canines to run and play off-leash. The Town asks that you respect the rules of the dog park which are posted at the entrance.
Directions: Take Exit 26A to Arnold’s Cove off the TCH and follow the Main Road for 2.5 km. Turn right at Spencer’s Cove Road and right at civic address 50.
Playground
The playground is located at 50A Spencer’s Cove Road and is open to children from spring to fall. There is a variety of playground equipment designed for all ages to explore and enjoy.
